It is his closest companion of Pokemon, but it doesn't mean that he isn't close to the others on his team. He's just closer to this one because they have been together the longest. Also, it shares a similar relationship that Souji has had with the original Izanagi. With the Persona, Souji has refused to fuse or release it, feeling as if it has been his first one and the one that has jammed him out of his first Shadow battle, he hasn't really been able to bare having it gone. With the Pokemon, he doesn't feel quite right without always having it with him and outside its ball most of the time.Izanagi is also his strongest and the one that Souji can rely on to get out of tricky spots in both battles and other situations. It is just as brave as its trainer, willing to get into any danger to protect Souji or any of his friends. This makes it very useful for rescue missions and battle. However, it isn't exactly completely leader-material. It can be a bit rash into making decisions and and not always understand the consequences, so it is more of a right-hand man Pokemon than a leader. Tell it what to do and it will carry the order with flying colours in a snap but leave it on its own, it can still pass but just take much longer and perhaps more injuries. Izanagi also has a very intimidating look. but it can be very friendly towards others. It plays that big brother role when it comes to watching over younger and smaller Pokemon, being the peacemaker if needed. Like trainer, like Pokemon. →  NAME INFO: Souji''s Skarmory is named after his first Pokemon-- his first partner in Johto shares the same name as his first partner in the TV. There isn't anything very interesting behind why Souji has named it after his Persona. He hasn't quite sat around and thought about it. Izanagi has just been the first name he has thought of in the spur of the moment when he has been asked what he will name his Pokemon.
