Affiliation: Trainer

Personality: Since at a young age, Souji was always moving from city to city, following wherever his parents were assigned to work next. The Setas almost never stayed in one location for there was always somewhere to go, somewhere to be working, and in so, they had to drag their son to these areas. It was tough on the child at first, but he began to get fairly used to it. However, this began to seriously affect his social life and gave him a bit of a pessimistic view, having no time to stay in just one area and make friends. Thus he never tried to make any good friends whenever he arrived at a new school, preferring to distant himself away from them, because he knew he'll lose them as soon the year ended. So, Souji became a loner for most of his school years.

Souji really did want to try and make some close friends, but he knew it was rather pointless to. No one ever kept in contact with someone that moved to the other side of the city, especially someone they only knew for a year. So, instead of trying to think positive, that pessimistic outlook began to overshadow how he started every new year. He was friendly to everyone, but he never made any close connections with them.

Then one year at the age of seventeen, he was send away to live with his uncle and cousin for a year, but not in the city he always stayed in. Not at all. It was the country-side and that small piece of land he was sent to was called 'Inaba'. Inaba was really not the best place to live in and it definitely wasn't an improvement from the city, but he really didn't mind. After all, he was just here to get through another year; pass the exams, make a few acquaintances, maybe join a club, and get through the school term. It was just like every other year.

That is until a series of murders occurred in this quiet little town.

Soon, Souji was wrapped up in the whole thing, discovering a new power he never had before: the ability to enter into televisions and summon a Persona, another part of himself. Soon, he began to be appointed leader of the Investigation Team, a team specifically made to rescue those who were thrown into the tv to die. To be honest, he was a bit surprised at first. Why was he appointed leader to a group when he was a loner? It didn't really make sense to him at first, but he didn't argue. After all, wasn't it better to just go with the flow and not cause any trouble?

And that was the start of where he started to open up more and make some lifelong friends, his hidden personality traits finally beginning to shine.

During the times when he often went in for rescue missions or training in the TV, Souji began to display great leadership skills. He knew when enough was enough, what each person's strength and weaknesses were, what strategy was best, and so on. He always tried to pull the best out of someone and soon began to encourage them to give it their all, something he never did before arriving in Inaba. He also listened to each person's issues and concerns, only helping him further to know what skills he can help the other person to hone. And from there, he began to lead the Investigation Team with a great choices, and started to prove why he had all the characteristics to become a leader: courage and ability to make reasonable choices.

During his whole time in his first encounter with Shadows, monsters that loomed in everyone's hearts, he managed to stay calm and not panic. Even more, he was able to summon his Persona, Izanagi, for the first time and defeat these enemies, even going onto defeating Yosuke's Shadow. Instead of running away and cowering, he stood his ground and protected Teddie and Yosuke, who later became two people he can trust with his life. This was the first act of great courage and ability to stay calm, but definitely not his last.

When going out to rescue his other victims, who also later became people he can give his life to, he wasn't afraid to face Shadows that were three times his size and could easily kill him with a single blow. He thought of strategies, knew who to send out, what to do, when to run away, and soon, Souji started to know his friends a lot more and become closer to them. He wasn't afraid to take a mortal blow for his comrades if needed and to lend a helping hand. From there, his pessimistic view slowly turned into an optimistic one. Soon, he became to believe that he could make friends, if he tried to, and that he could encourage others to do the same. No longer did he look the downside of something, but began to look the bright side.

Souji then began to make friends outside of the Investigation Team and even joined two school clubs; basketball and music. He also even manged to grab a job working at a day care center, where it showed that he was good with children. He made new friends left and right. He started to go to watch movies, head to the mall, study together, and finally connect. The kind nature he had tucked away was finally out on full blast, and he beginning to shed away from his loner shell.

He became very close with his cousin, Nanako, whom he sees as a younger sister. He can understand how lonely it is being by yourself, so he easily got along with her, whose father was always out on duty. This is where he begins to shine in how well he gets along with children: he often helped her with homework, played magic tricks to pass time, helped her make dinner, he soon became the center of Nanako’s world. So, when she was kidnapped, he stopped at nothing to get her back. Although he wasn’t reckless or lose his cool, he began to push himself a bit too far, only proving that when he does make close friends, he will push himself to do everything in his power to save them.

In the end, with the help with all of his friends, the Investigation Team finally closed the case of the kidnaps and murders....or did they?

On the day before Souji was to leave back to the city, it turned out that there was an even greater force that was behind everything. Izanami, the Japanese goddess of death, was trying to engulf the whole world in fog, as it was what humans really wished. Leading his group one last time, he managed to take them all the way to the goddess where it seemed like they’ll win...until she used “A Thousand Curses” where she attempted to drag him into the underworld, a million hands reaching up and trying to pull him down. Each and every one of his comrades pushed him aside and saving his life, them being dragged down instead. However, that wasn’t enough for in the end, the great leader finally fell in battle and under the curse. As he was starting to wither away in the depths of the fog, all the voices of the dear friends he made came to comfort him, encouraging him to keep going. Gathering up all the power from the bonds he made in just a year, he stood up and summoned his ultimate Persona: Izanami-no-Okami. With all of his friends supporting him, he managed to defeat the goddess of death with “Myriad Truths”, forever ending it all. From there, the land of the TV became what it formerly was; a land of peace and reflecting the human heart.

The next day, Souji climbed onto that train, bidding his friends and family one final farewell, promising that he’ll come back to meet with them all. Sure, it all sounds like some kind of cheesy story that his parents always used to tell him, but to him, it was all of a dear year he will never forget and that was when he finally realized the truth: It wasn’t that he never really didn’t know how to connect or had the chance. He never tried, and because of his stay in Inaba, he became a much stronger person than he was before.

Strengths:
»Cool headed: This was one of the main reasons why he was appointed leader. It is because he knows when to stay calm and not panic. The best known example is when everyone has figured out who was throwing people into the TV and was deciding to kill him. Instead of jumping to conclusions due to the heat of the moment, he stayed calm and quite literally told everyone shut the hell up and calm down. With a cool head, he can make reasonable decisions and think plans though.

»Brave: Another reason why Souji was appointed as leader of the Investigation team was his great acts of courage. He isn’t afraid to jump into the middle of danger to take a blow for his teammates and friends or to go onto a rescue mission. He can face death straight in the eye and he won't be faltered from what he believes is the right thing to do. For his friends and family, he will risk it all to protect them.

»Intelligent: Souji is one of the top students in his classes. Sure, he might not top Yukiko in marks, but he’s pretty high up there. Since he was a loner for such a long time, he did nothing but stay home and study. He wasn’t expected to do much and even though he began to go out more with his friends in Inaba, he still kept up with his studies at night. Though he admits, he’s not very good at the sciences. He’s more of the languages and history type.

»Kindness: Since he was a child, he was always friendly to everyone, showing kindness to other kids and respecting his elders. Even as he was trying to separate himself from everyone else, whenever someone came up to him, he always showed respect and treated the other person well.

»Patient: This guy will pretty much sit down and be able to listen to you whining for about an hour without saying a single word. He’s the kind of guy you want to speak to when you need to get something off your chest. He is patient enough to spend his whole afternoon with kids complaining about who touched who and who did that and who started it and who didn’t. This is one of the main reasons why he’s great with kids: he doesn’t snap at them when they get on his nerves. The same goes for when he is tutoring. He doesn’t become frustrated when the student doesn’t understand, but instead slowly goes through the material once again. He’ll make a great teacher.

»Selfless: Souji is pretty selfless to the max. He would give up something he might want for another. When he was a loner, he did this so he could get by things a lot easier and not cause any trouble, but as he grew friends, he did this out of kindness and for them. He will more than often not take the fame for himself and pass it onto someone else that he thinks deserves it more. You will hardly see him bragging about anything. He’ll just smile and nod for you.

Weaknesses:
»Curious: This can be considered a good thing, but when it comes to Souji, it’s probably not. What he’s curious about is all about food. He has a really bad habit of going into his fridge and eating whatever he can find, may it be some expired soup or some grass from Nanako’s school project, he’ll eat it. Of course, he more than often gets an upset stomach for the rest of the night, but it’s so worth it. Well, you know what they say; “curiosity killed the cat, but its fascination brought it back.”

»Selfless: Just as much as it can be a strength, this could be a weakness. Because Souji never really takes any credit for anything or thinks of himself before others, it can be frustrating dealing with him. Especially if you want him to take some credit, he just smile and shake his head. He'll accept your gifts only after you really insist, but credit? No way.

»The Wind: It really is a strange weakness, isn’t it? Just who is weak against wind? Well, this seventeen is. He will not technically just drop dead if he’s hit with a gust of wind, but rather, he dislikes being hit with one. His hair gets messed up and it’s always hard to walk in it. It didn’t help that his original Persona was weak against to wind skills. Although he could change his Personae at will, he never really got over his weakness to it. Though a light gentle one is alright. He likes those, but give him a huge storm wind, forget it. He’s outta here.

First Person Sample:
[The video feed starts off with a really shaky start. The only sound you hear at first is that horrible muffling sound as fingers keep trailing over the mic. It’s clear that the owner has almost no idea what he’s doing. It finally focuses onto a young man with silver hair. He seems pretty calm for someone who just woke up in Johto, but still pretty confused.]

I think I got it on...This looks like one of Yosuke’s handheld game consoles, though I don’t remember a camera on it...

[He ponders to himself for a bit before shrugging, looking towards the camera.]

If this is going out, does anyone know where I am? It doesn’t look like Inaba or the city..

I’m pretty used to this stuff and I wouldn’t surprised if this was a dream. Not like I didn’t have weird dreams just like this before, but the “mom” thing is new. I probably just fell asleep on the train.

[He shrugs once again, but keeps his small smile on. Weird dreams; he had them before. This wasn’t any worse than when Igor called him in his sleep. This dream was pretty mild compared to the flaming luchadors and the Velvet room, so whatever.]

But if anyone can tell me what’s going on, I’ll really appreciate it. I'll like to see my parents again, or at least call my friends. They are probably worried about me, and I'm worried about them.

Thank you in advance.

Third Person Sample:
It’s been about two days since Souji set off into the Pokemon World, wandering around in the woods. Some of the people back in town just pointed in this direction and told him to head straight. It really wasn’t the best piece of directions he got, but hey, he’ll take whatever he got. It’s better than nothing, right? So, he thanked the kind lady and gentleman, and made his way into Route 29.

...only to find himself lost and almost out of food...

Most of the time, Souji was great at directions. He lead his team around castles and never ending bathhouses, making twist and turns everywhere. It was often that they got lost, but he always managed to find a way out, along with the help of either Teddie or Rise. He was great at remembering which way he turned and where he came from, so that always helped. But here...Even if he kept going in a straight line, it looked like he was just going around in a loop...

But he kept going. It was too late to turn back now. He might as well keep walking on ahead. No good to panic right now and run around, right? He had to keep his cool, just like when he was team leader. This was what he was good at.

Besides, he just might finally find someone or see something different for once. Something other than all these bushes and normal looking oak trees. Something other like...that fruit tree in front of him. Alright, when did that get there?

Walking up to it, he looked up at its branches. Hey, there was some fruit up there. It was shaped like a peach and even the same colour as it, though it looked a bit smaller than it. That was kinda interesting. Suddenly, he was curious. Did the fruit here in this world taste like the fruits back at home?

Standing on his toes, he picked one of the peach-like ones off the tree and shifted it around his hand a bit, just debating if he should eat it or not. Was it really a good idea to eat some random fruit out here in the wild? It probably wasn’t, but hey. He picked it off the tree, so he can’t just leave it here. That would a waste, and well...he was curious and hungry...It wasn’t like he didn’t eat anything bad for him back at home. He didn’t have any more food left in his bag, so what could he lose?

Just your life, a thought whispered, but he quickly dismissed it.

After cleaning the fruit by wiping it on his sleeve, he took a big bite out of it. He chewed a few times, not really getting a taste of anything. It didn’t taste like anything at all. He took another bite and chew at a slower rate this time. Alright, he can get...something? It was kinda waxy, like eating a candle, but it wasn’t as bad as the time he ate that grass Nanako brought home.

Swallowing his second bite, it was then when a sudden aftertaste hit him full force. He nearly hurled over to the side. It was like a mixture of sour milk, rotten fish, and bad eggs, all things he once ate sometime in his lifetime. Now something was stabbing him in the side of his stomach. Oh boy...He started to regret eating this fruit now, possibly even more than regretting to drink that red miso soup gone bad a few months ago. Great going, leader. You really outdone yourself now.

Tossing the fruit onto the floor, Souji took a few steps away from the tree, before propping himself against another tree. He guess he had to rest here just a bit. At least until his stomach stopped acting up. He let out a groan.

...Note to self...Don’t eat any of the berries ever again...
