Well, when you look at the map of Violet, you'll notice there's two routes you can take--the one that leads to the north is the one that will take you to the shortcut.

[Pause.] You'll run into a tree eventually. If you don't have a water type with you, just give me a call. I can meet you there and let you through.

The tree's actually pokemon called Sudowoodo--rock type, weak against water. That's pretty much the only thing you can do to make it move, or you're out of luck.

[Shrug.] I don't mind. It's not the first time I've met someone at the tree.
