[ souji isn’t actually surprised when he sees mako’s text. after all, he got involved in a fight. a bar fight that involved a gun (even though no one knows who used it or whom it belonged to) so it’s obvious that there had to be a police report. unfortunately for souji, even if he had left the bar before the police have arrived and had gone to the hospital with tatsuma, the cuts on tatsuma’s head from the beer bottle he took was obvious enough to any officers could easily put two and two together. luckily for souji, no charges or damages but just a stern talking to so that was the end of that, or so he thought. ]
[ he has already arrived at home with tatsuma, tucking him in, and then speaking with yu. for mako to contact him this late at night with a straight forward text like this, it could only mean one thing... ]
[at least he's not coming over while still dressed in his uniform, so that's a plus, right? but at the same time, when he knocks on the door, the concern is apparent on his face.
[ mako coming without his uniform does help a bit but not by much. souji knows that he still has to explain what happened and he’s afraid that he’s going to break down all over again, just like what he did at the professor’s house... ]
[ he opens the door once he hears the knocks. unlike the last time mako came over, back when they exchanged their christmas gifts with one another, there is no smile on souji’s face. instead, there’s a tired expression and his left cheek has a dark shade of reddish purple. his hair is not as neat as it normally is and his shoulders are slumped. ]
Hey. Come in.
[ that’s all he says before he steps to the side to let mako in ]
[he hadn't thought this through, it had been more instinct and worry, especially after he read the full report, that really made him come visit Souji. given it all, he's relieved it wasn't worse. but still... he needed to see it for himself. he never thought being a police officer would be that troublesome.
at least, not until he started seeing his friends' names in police reports.]
Hey.
... I guess you know why I'm here, huh. But... I read the report about what happened.
[ he just nods. he’s... just tired. it’s been a long night and he’s drained. he lets mako into the house so they don’t have to stand out in the cold but he doesn’t really move from there. ]
... yeah, I— it’s been a night...
[ that’s all he can say right now. the report wouldn’t have too many details asides from a group of kids coming into the bar and getting into a fight. very few injuries asides from the kids and no concrete reasons as to why they even entered the bar. there are more questions than answers in the report ]
["a night." He places his hand on Souji's shoulder, trying to be reassuring, in his own way. Mako was never one for physical contact in most cases, but... Souji looked like he needed it. and honestly, Mako only came because he was concerned about him.]
What happened?
[he wanted to know, outside of the report. some sort of explanation for why his best friend had gotten into that situation.]
[ there's a lull as souji tries to piece everything together in a coherent way to say. normally, he doesn't have a problem speaking his mind and being able to put his thoughts into words but tonight, there's just so much. he struggles to find out how to say everything without rambling or becoming a mess, and he lets out a heavy breath before he starts ]
... Tatsuma's grandparents, they were struck in a hit-and-run. I was there with Tatsuma when he got the call about it and after the initial grief, that grief quickly turned into anger. He wanted to get revenge, to hurt the people who hurt him, and he searched around the city for the driver. It eventually led him to the bar while I tried to stop him, he didn't listen. He just wanted someone to pay for what happened... eventually, some of his other friends arrived to convince him to leave and it soon turned into the bar fight that you read about. Tatsuma came out needing stitches, one of us broke their leg, and I just got a few bruises.
[ he just tilts his head but only so slightly to bring attention to his left cheek where the bruises remain ]
